There have been several superlative reviews of the movie and some more balanced viewpoints as well - I recently saw the movie and had earlier read the book "Five Point Someone" - while the movie is enjoyable and has great acting by the main cast, it is obvious to anyone who has read the book by Chetan Bhagat that nearly 70% of the major events/scenes in the movie are from the book. The additional scenes/characters that have been added by the scriptwriter do not integrate well into the story.
ReplyDeleteI also felt the movie was too preachy and the essential spirit of the book which was a light hearted take on campus life was lost somewhat. In the book the 3 students mend their rebellious ways in the end and actually hit the books & do well in the last semester. The movie throughout is a take off on our current education & is a showcase for Aamir Khan who is the messiah out to change the system - his alter-ego Ryan in the book was not the most popular guy & had some wonderful shades of grey. Obviously Mr. Hirani had to dumb down this complexity for our masses & make a Munna-bhai style movie.
I guess in the final analysis it is important to assess if a film is enjoyable and is also able to make us think & it is on this count that 3 idiots scores compared to the rest of the pack.
