Nachavule - Different teenage love story

Ushakiron Movies is known for bringing excellent subjects on the screen. Producer Ramoji Rao had touched several aspects in producing the films including action, family and message-oriented subjects, besides some love stories. Likewise, Ravibabu is known for directing novel subjects. He had his own typical style of moulding the scenes, with a different taking and special treatment. Instead of keeping a separate comedy track, he makes the audiences to laugh instantaneously by creating certain scenes and typical situations. The combination of this successful producer and director brought out a different love story on the screen, which came the 81st film on Ushakiron Movies' banner. As the story demanded, the director chose all new faces for the film.

Lava Kumar is the son of a middle-class man. His birth itself is a speciality his father hails from north Andhra while his mother is from north India. Lav's father always grumbles for everything. He is quite strict and appears very impatient. However, his mother is very kind and gentle. Once Lav's father gets a verbal thrashing for his son's act and he stops talking with Lav from then onwards. Lav gets a brother when he was eight-year-old. The latter has a penchant to steal small articles and sell it away for chocolates and ice creams. Lav grows up and completes his Intermediate.

Like many teenage boys Lav also wants to move with girl friends and he makes trials from 9 am to 7 pm but could not catch the eye of any girl. He then decides not to follow many girls and instead concentrate on one girl. With the help of his friend Sreenu, he manages to get in touch with a girl called Anu. Though Anu does not care Lav in the beginning, he helps her by saving her father when he suffers a stroke. After getting acquaintance, he pleads with her to be his girl friend. On condition that Lav should not touch, embrace or kiss her, she agrees to be his girl friend for just 10 days. Being a disciplined girl, Anu invites Lav to her house, only to let her father know where she is going and with whom. However, Lav is quite innocent and his idea is only to show others that he too had a girlfriend. This innocence makes Anu herself to cross the limits and breaks the conditions.

On one occasion, Lav shoots Anu with his mobile phone when she was angry and accidentally, Anu kisses him and he shoots it with his mobile unknowingly. She changes his style and makes him very attractive. So every girl starts liking Lav and he continues to date with everyone and move freely. Incidentally, Anu falls in love with Lav, but the latter has no such idea. After the purpose is served, Lav starts ignoring Anu. Lav's brother steals the mobile and sells it off to a mobile shop. Noticing the kissing scene in the mobile, the shop owner passes it to his friend's mobile through MMS. Like this, all the mobiles which have the MMS facility gets the video. This embarrasses Anu and her father. The same video boomerangs and all the girls who moved freely with Lav start refusing him.

At this juncture, Lav's mother falls sick. Then Lav's father realises his folly and changes his attitude. However, she dies of illness. Lav starts repenting but it is of no use. When Anu and her father decide to leave the city. A youth, who is after Anu for quite sometime, bores grudge against Lav and stabs him. He also threatens to kill Anu. Lav wants to save her despite he is nearing to death. Anu believes that Lav is playing a prank but notices someone stabbing him and realises how sincerely he loved her. The film ends on a happy note with the union of Lav and Anu.

PLUS: The entire first half of the film was devoted to portray the feelings of teenage youth, their interest towards girls and the pranks they play to capture the attention of girls, the enjoyment of moving with a girlfriend and other such things. Ravibabu gave excellent situational comedy all through the first half and the one-liners evoked tremendous response and laugh from the audiences. The second half, however, was completely devoted to serious love, family drama and sentiment and turns out to be a complete Ushakiron Movies genre film. The hero, heroine and the villain, hero's parents, heroine's father and a man in the neighbourhood of the heroine — every character lived to the expectations of the audiences. Action by Kanal Kannan is simple and the camera work by Sudhakar Reddy is okay. Music by Sekhar Chandra is good in parts.

MINUS: Though the director tried to portray the feelings of the teenage boy, he ignored how he could manage the girls, maintaining a mobile phone and bike, moving to costly pubs and coffee shops. Though in a couple of scenes, the hero is seen taking money from the heroine, it failed to establish the financial support for the hero, as his father always used to grumble against him. Likewise, it was not shown what the boy's brother is doing with the money by selling the stolen articles. How anyone could purchase stolen articles from a child instead of complaining it to his parents. Several scenes have no logic and the director conveniently ignored them as he concentrated on portraying a different love story.

REMARKS: The segregation of the film for a complete entertainment in the first half and complete serious scenes in the second half made the film losing balance. The first song in black and white and the title song were choreographed excellently. One could justify that the price of the ticket could be given to the first half and to the canning of these two songs. As a whole, it is a complete Ravibabu's film in the first half and the Ushakiron Movies' film in the second half.

Fitting Master sermonises

The title of the Telugu film Fitting Master is intriguing. It is to do with the protagonist Sampath who is a master at fitting things. Producer-director E V V Satyanarayana, who also scripts the film, has given his son 'Allari' Naresh a huge role to play. Unlike a typical E V V film, the humour is negligible. He also laces the film with a message.

The first half of the film shows Sampath ('Allari' Naresh), an instructor at a gym as a good guy with values. Meghana (Madalasa Sharma) falls for Sampath. He however does not return the favour. In fact he does not believe in love.

The first half is full of songs and moves at a slow pace. The unfolding of the story leaves the audience thinking about Sampath's behaviour. Obviously he is disturbed by something which is unclear. And this is known only in the second half.

E V V manages to arrest the attention of the audience by not revealing the truth behind Sampath's life. It is only post-interval that we learn of the horrific incidents in his life -- about how he loses his parents and sister, all because of three men. And so the hunt for these three men begins.

At one level, Sampath argues for showing respect to parents as they nurture the children and at another, he does not hesitate to resort to violence. There is quite a bit of sermonising and parents would perhaps even think twice before buying a mobile phone for their daughter if they go by what is shown in the movie. The movie also shows the all-pervading 'interference' of the media (particularly the television channels) in people's lives.

Naresh is the soul of the movie. He carries it on his shoulders and is impressive as the good guy as well as the angry action man. Madalasa Sharma keeps him good company though she can improve on her performance a bit. Sayaji Shinde [Images] looks and sounds a bit ridiculous as a cop mouthing lyrics of Telugu film songs. Ali too is not his usual self.

In a nutshell, movies that sermonise do not generally fare well. It would be interesting to see how this one turns out.

Indhumathi - Designed to thrill

Shivaji, Swetha Bharadwaj, Harsha Vardhan and Bharath Reddy feature in lead roles of 'Indumathi' which has been directed by Harsha P Reddy for Geo Media Arts.

Plenty of thrillers and suspense filled storylines are in vogue these days and given the fact that technology is rollicking, many of these films work at the box office. 'Indumathi' released on New Year's day has indeed lived up to expectations and comes across as a good entertainer.

Story

Honey (Swetha Bharadwaj) works for a company. The MD of the company has loads of faith in her work. Raj (Bharath Reddy) who works for a BPO (call centre) is in love with her. Both of them feel that money is vital in order to get married and settle down peacefully.

One fine day the MD hands her 2 Crores of rupees in cash which has to be deposited in the company's bank account. Taking her boyfriend Raj with her she flees with the money to Hyderabad. They rent out a house there- Ananda Nilayam, in Gachibowli and begin to live together. Soon Raj gets murdered and Honey goes missing from the place.

Four friends Rajesh, Banti, Kishore, Sheshi rent out the same house, which is owned by Anand (Harsha Vardhan). Later Chandu (Shivaji) a friend of Sheshi joins them. From then onwards one after another the inmates of Ananda Nilayam begin to die.

Who is the killer in Ananda Nilayam? Who is Indumathi? Why did Chandu, who was supposed to go to America, come here? What happens at the end? To unravel the mystery watch 'Indumathi'.

Performance of Artists

'Manthra' features Shivaji in a unique role with an unusual characterization. Now in 'Indumathi' he is seen in a deglamorised character as a psycho, which he has performed excellently. His portrayal of a psycho killer has stood out as the main attraction for the film. Earlier Shivaji did a similar role in 'Shradhanjali' and in a film made by Ushakiran Movies.

Swetha Bharadwaj did a good job although this is her first film. Her glam quotient is an additional attraction for the film.

Kishore, who was introduced through the character of Bharath in 'Vennela', VijaySai, Srinivas Reddy have sufficiently entertained the audience with their comedy acts. Rajesh has done well within the limits of his character.

The performance of Harsha Vardhan and Tulasi is okay. Though Raghubabu appears in a single scene, he has been successful in tickling the audience.

Technicians Work

It is well know that music plays an important part in suspense thrillers. Anand who debuted with 'Manthra', has composed excellent re-recording for this film.

Photography by Vasu is equally matching. The sequences filmed with night effects and those that show the building under water have come out in brilliant fashion. The lighting has been apt.

Art director Narayana Reddy's work, especially the house set is good. Shankar's editing and Nandu's fights are ok.

Directors Work

Harsha Reddy stepped into films as a producer with 'Andharu Dongale' and turned into director with 'Indumathi'. Although this is his first project the story is also an acquainted one, the screenplay is good. Harsha Reddy was successful in maintaining the tempo of the story and most importantly in horrifying the audience with the story.

Analysis

'Indumathi', is targeted for the audience who like to watch suspense thrillers. The film did succeed in entertainment with the horror element going. Though there are a few pits in the story and screenplay department, 'Indumathi' undisputedly has the potential to thrill audiences.

Maska Movie Review

MS Raju well known as Sankranti Raju has come back with a mass commercial entertainer Maska by teaming with senior director B Gopal, young and energetic hero Ram and glamorous heroines Hansika and Sheela. As expected, the film has turned out to be a mass entertainer.

Krish (Ram) has not completed his degree, but wants to become a millionaire overnight. Following his friend's (Sunil) suggestion, Ram decides to marry a girl who would settle in the US with a big job. Krish tries to trap Manju (Sheela) the daughter of an MP, Jagannatham (Mukhesh Rushi). Learning that Manju wishes to love a boy who has been in love earlier, Krish narrates a fabricated love story to her. When Manju is about to propose to Krish, the fictitious character created by Krish comes alive as Meenu (Hansika). Then the triangular love game begins. Though Krish wants to trap Manju, he falls for Meenu's innocence.

Once, Krish saves Meenu from a gang of kidnappers and they become friends. When Meenu decides to propose to him, she comes to know that Krish is a fraud. She hates him and reveals the truth to Manju. However Manju loves him and asks him to save her from an unwanted marriage alliance. A few turn of events reveals that Meenu and Manju are step sisters. Jagannatham and another MP Shinde (Pradeep Rawat) contest for a ministerial berth. Shinde tries to disqualify Jagannatham on charges of bigamy for having married twice. In this backdrop, both Jagannatham and Shinde try to catch Meenu and her mother (Sita). In the climax, Krish confesses his true love for Meenu. The movie ends on a happy note with Jagannatham agreeing to relinquish the ministerial birth and Krish marrying Meenu.

PLUS: The film has been planned to be an out and out commercial entertainer. The first half is entirely devoted to attract the youth. The mind game coupled with comedy entertains the audiences well. Ram has got a complete chance to prove his acting capabilities with perfect comedy timing. Coming to the second half, director B Gopal has not been able to resist his regular tempo and instinct for making a faction-oriented subject. The entire second half is full of action and bloodshed. As a whole the film has all the elements that can attract the B and C centres' audiences. The music director has given tunes to the songs with a view on choreography. Hansika and Sheela have equally shared their roles in the film filled the glamour slots. Mukhesh Rushi and Pradeep Rawat are okay in villain roles. Comedy by Sunil is okay. After a long time Sunil has got an opportunity to play a full-length comedy role equal to the hero.

MINUS: Like many of the Telugu films, this movie too has no logic. However, the director needs to be commended for making the audiences believe many illogical scenes. Comedy by Brahmanandam has failed to evoke laughter. But for the logical part, the film is okay for a normal view. The audiences who spend their valuable time and money need not feel that their money has gone waste. But there are certain scenes where the audiences feel why and how the director could do that when it is almost impossible in real life. For example, the hero jumps from a 500 ft tall building, but goes unscathed. Such scenes evoke laughter from the audiences.

REMARKS: In one way, producer MS Raju has regained his past glory and has got back his earlier image of Sankranti Raju with the movie. Especially, Maska has brought back the smile on the face of 'Honey'. The novel combination of director, producer, music director, hero and heroine has worked out well. The directorial capabilities of B Gopal and the energetic performance by the hero Ram, the sizzling beauties Hansika and Sheela together are a feast for the audiences.

Cast: Ram, Hansika, Sheela, Pradeep Rawat, Sayaji Shinde, Sunil, Brahmanandam, Naresh, MS Narayana, Krishna Bhagawan, Dharmavarapu Subrahmanyam, Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao, Adi of 'Munna'-fame, Narsing Yadav, Telangana Sakuntala and others

Credits: Story – Surya, Dialogues – Paruchuri Brothers, Music – Chakri, Cinematography – Sekhar V Joseph, Editing – Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao, Lyrics – Kandikonda, Action – Ram-Lakshman, Art – Rajesh, Screenplay – MS Raju, Direction – B. Gopal.

डेल्ही 6 (Delhi 6)

Cast : Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor
Waheeda Rehman, Om Puri, Amitabh Bachchan
Direcor : Rakeysh Omprakash mehraa
Release date: February 20, 2009

Delhi 6 is a black comedy that exposes people's hypocrisy. In today's world, we are often quick to judge people, but if we look at ourselves very closely, we often find that we're not being fair to others.

Delhi 6 revolves around Roshan, a young American boy of Indian origin. He comes to India for the first time, to drop off his ailing grandmother. She wants to die in her own country, and so prepares for the inevitable.

Having led a western lifestyle, an America-born Roshan is unaware of the sights and sounds, the food and culture, the religion and beliefs that make up Indian society.

After arriving in India, he engages with his grandmother's neighbourhood. He soon mixes and becomes part of the community. But little does Roshan know that this jovial and gregarious group of people have another side to them - they have decided to take advantage of Roshan's naive nature.

The story is shown against the backdrop of the ancient city of Delhi (which is totally different from New Delhi). The city is almost a character in itself, representing the chaos of India, the people, their religions and their beliefs.

The pin code of this old city is 110006. With pride and love they call it Delhi 6.

The film puts across a message that we are quick to judge others, without seeing our own weaknesses. Delhi 6 is directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and could very well prove one of the biggest movies of 2009.

Shashirekha Parinayam Movie Review

The Cast and Crew
Tarun, Genelia, Ahuti Prasad, Paruchuri Gopala Krishna, Subbaraju, Raghubabu, MS Narayana, Suthivelu, Sivaji Raja, Abhi, Giri, Surekha Vani, Tulasi, Geeta Singh, Monali Chowdary, Vamsi and others

Music: Mani Sharma
Lyrics: Sirivennela & Anant Sreeram
Cinematography: Bhaskar Samala
Editing: Shankar
Art: Satyanarayan
Dialogues: Nagaraju
Producer: Sunkara Madhu Murali
Banner : Karthikeya Creations
Story - screenplay - direction: Krishna Vamsi

Shashirekha Parinayam belongs to the genre of Road Romance films like Raj Kapoor’s Chori Chori, Gregory Peck’s Roman Holiday, Frank Capra’s It happened One Night, Mahesh Bhatt’s Dil Hai Ki Mantha Nahin and Imtiaz Ali’s Jab We Met.

Shashirekha Parinayam is not inspired any of the above films in content, but only belongs to their genre. The road journey of the protagonists in this film is a metaphor for their journey together in life as partners.

The Synopsis

The marriage of Sasirekha (Genelia) has been suddenly fixed by her father (Ahuti Prasad) without giving any chance to her at least to know who her life-partner would be. She becomes aware that her marriage has been fixed with a rich NRI and she also learns that the prospective father-in-law desires a big chunk of money as dowry.

Hours before her marriage, she runs away from the wedding venue in Amalapuram ostensibly to go to her friend in Hyderabad. As her people have been searching for her at the Railway station and bus station, she seeks the help of Anand (Tarun) and goes away with him on a motor-bike.

Their journey begins. After xenophobic apprehensions and valid misunderstandings, Sasirekha and Anand continue their journey.

The rest of the story deals with the journey of the protagonists and the climax is reached with some unexpected turns and twists.

The Performances

Genelia has come out with a good performance and she maintains her own ebullient way. As the story is told from the female protagonist point of view, she had ample opportunity to showcase her thespian repertoire.
Tarun is his usual carefree self, but with meaningful restraint as per the demands of his role. He emotes well in the pivotal scenes. Ahuti Prasad and Parachuri Gopala Krishna give convincing performances.

Subbaraju, Raghubabu and MS Narayana acquit themselves well in their roles. All others are adequate.

The Techniques

This is a story where a young woman struggles to assert her rights as per the demands of her mind and heart. Being a Road Romance film, the story and screenplay will not offer any dramatic episodes. However, some scenes have been conceived and executed well such as the interval bang and the pre-cilmax revelations. But, somehow, the stamp of the unique style of Krishna Vamsi is missing.

The music and lyrics are good, though a couple of songs hinder the flow of narration. The cinematography is good. The dialogues can afford to have some pep and wit. Sometimes they are longwinded too. The editing and audiography has not helped to enhance the overall appeal of the film.

The Verdict

Shashirekha Parinayam is an unplanned journey of the hero and heroine into the unknown frontiers of life and into the indefinable realms of love and togetherness.

In spit of some contrived situations and some predictable incidents, Shashirekha Parinayam has enough of refreshing entertainment values that appeal to one and all.

This is a family saga spearheaded by the female protagonist who would go all out to assert her will in matters concerning her life.

We can travel along with Genelia and Tarun on the route marked by Krishna Vamsi.
